Alison Young: songs

Cinderella Hellfire

(Alison Young © 2004)
  • MP3 play whole song, hi-fi (broadband)
This is wild territory, rattlesnakes and shiftin' sands
If I had any sense I'd steer clear of this no-man's land
'Stead of spurrin' my pony when he's ready to rest
And dreamin' of flowers that bloom in the west

Once I valued my virtue, yeah I was somebody's girl
I slept safe as a princess untouched by the world
Traded that bed of feathers for this blanket of dust
Kept dreamin' of flowers that bloom in the west

As I pass through the ghost towns I hear echoes of songs
That's what gives me the courage to keep carryin' on
For I know if I die here I will leave more than bones
Some traveller behind me may find these pieces of poems

I've been ridin' so long now I forgot my old name
In a land with no mirrors there's no pride and there's no shame
And strange beauty can grow here without water or shade
The very thing that I dreamed of is what I became

I was dreamin' of flowers, dreamin' of flowers, dreamin' of flowers that bloom in the west...
